TOPIC 6

INSTRUCTIONAL COURSEWARE DESIGN

In this topic, we have been exposed to the Instructional courseware design. It is functioning to design and develop an amazing learning program. Through this courseware design, we can engage and motivate the students in learning. Thus, students can experiences knowledge and skill efficiently, effectively and appealing. However, before designing the courseware, we need to figure out the learners’ need, defining the learning objectives and find a way to ensure objectives could be achieved. The courseware can be applied in our real-world teaching and it is very helpful to assist in learning for both teacher and learners.
In building the courseware, we must know what the learners’ need to learn. Analysis is needed to look into syllabus, do some survey, free writing and public records. This is to ensure the learning outcomes could be achieved and successful. Furthermore, instructional design in call does exist. It involves creating computer courseware for learning. If you want to know, courseware actually acts as supplement/support to a lesson but not as a complete replacement. Courseware can also be designed both for inside and outside the lesson. Programmed Logic for Automated Teaching Operation or PLATO was the first generalized computer assisted instruction system. Starting in 1960 and the system was shut down in 2006.
ADDIE is a framework for the development of instructional coursework. ADDIE represents a descriptive guideline for building effective training and performance support tools in five phases which are Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation.
